Membership
The
American Association of University Women (AAUW), founded in 1881, is
the nation's oldest and largest organization working to promote
education and equity for women and girls.
The
Bakersfield Branch, organized in 1925, is one of over 1,600 branches
nationwide, representing more than 160,000 members who seek personal
lifelong development and advocate social changes and legal policy
consistent with gender equity.
Eligibility
Membership is open to any graduate with an associate or equivalent or
baccalaureate or higher degree from a regionally accredited college or
university. Undergraduates enrolled in such an institution may become
student affiliates.
Membership
is not by invitation. In principle and practice, AAUW values and seeks
a diverse membership. There are no barriers to full participation in
this organization on the basis of gender, race, national origin,
creed, age, sexual orientation, or disability.
Though
the branch year is July 1 through June 30, prospective members may
join at any time during the year.
Annual
Dues
Annual dues for branch members in the 2005-2006 membership year, from
July 1, 2005 through June 30, 2006, are $76. This figure includes $17
for branch dues, $16 for state dues, and $43 for national association
dues. Lifetime membership in the national association is also
available. You may inquire about registration with by emailing

Branch
student affiliate dues, for students currently pursuing a bachelor's
degree, are $50, which includes branch, state, and national
association dues. Student affiliates may participate fully in all
branch, state, and association programs.
Recruitment
Recruiting
new members is everyone's responsibility. When you know of a qualified
prospective member, notify the membership vice-president who will send
that person an informative letter, AAUW brochure and application,
recent Pipeline, and an invitation to join us at upcoming
events. Guests are welcome at branch programs. |
